Angela Renee Arnett

At 40 years of age, a beautiful daughter, wife and loving mother of two handsome young men - Angela Renee Arnett lost her battle with Melanoma on January 3, 2014. Angie had a mole under her right arm that began to change color and grow slightly. On May 24, 2013 Angie had the mole biopsied. In early June the biopsy came back positive for melanoma. Angie then had an MRI of the brain and a full body pet scan in mid June - both of which came back clean. On July 1, 2013, Angie had a wide excision biopsy and sentinel lymph node biopsy. Three lymph nodes were removed and of those, 2 were positive for melanoma. Then on July 29, 2013 she had all lymph nodes removed from under her right arm, 3 more were positive for melanoma, for a total of 5 positive lymph nodes. It was then decided that she would undergo 20 treatments of radiation under her right arm and then enter into a clinical trial to try and keep the cancer from returning. In early August while undergoing tests for setting up the radiation treatments, it was discovered that the cancer had already spread to her liver and lungs. At this point she was referred to a clinical trial, but had to have a clean MRI before she could be accepted. So an MRI of the brain was performed and in late August the results came back showing a small lesion on the brain. This would disqualify her from the trial. So it was decided that she would begin immunotherapy for her body and cyber-knife radiation treatment on her brain. September 3, 2013, Angie began the IV immunotherapy (one treatment every 3 weeks for 4 treatments were scheduled). On September 13, 2013, Angie began 3 straight cyber-knife radiation treatments to destroy the brain lesion. This radiation seemed to help stop the progress of the lesion. Angie went on to receive her 2nd and 3rd IV treatment trying to destroy this terrible disease. The 3rd treatment made her so ill that she had to be hospitalized and the doctor's canceled the 4th and final treatment. Another pet scan was performed while in the hospital this time, and the results had shown that the melanoma was still spreading - the medication had not been working for her.
Angie then came home to rest over the holidays while trying to recoup from these treatments. Angie got her wish to spend her final Holidays at home with her two sons before going home to be with our Lord on January 3, 2014
